EU fires sanctions round against China and six other countries but not (yet) against Turkey

Lhe first-ever list of sanctions imposed by the EU for massive human rights violations was extended on Monday. To the four Russian officials already targeted in early March in connection with the “Navalny affair”, EU foreign ministers added four Chinese leaders from Xinjiang for “large-scale arbitrary arrests, in particular, of ‘Uighurs’. The state enterprise responsible for the construction of detention centers for these minorities is also penalized. Other responsible for human rights violations come under fire from the EU: in North Korea, Libya, Chechnya (Russia), South Sudan and Eritrea. The Burmese junta is sanctioned for the coup.
