Der i20 N kommt im Frühjahr 2021 auf den Markt, der Basis-i20 befindet sich schon im Handel.

In mid-September, for example, Hyundai wanted to test drive the new i20 generation in Germany for the first time. The driving presentation was canceled due to the virus, last week a kind of mini presentation was made up for the Austrian market. This week, the international unveiling of a new electric car platform was announced (the name Ioniq, which has already been introduced, plays a major role here) – virtually. But nothing came of it either. Instead, the brand revealed something else interesting, namely the sporty derivative i20 N.
While the basic i20 has to be satisfied with three-cylinder units and multipoint four-cylinders, the i20 N with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine can show that it can even achieve decent results on the racetrack. It only takes 6.7 seconds to let the vehicle sprint from zero to 100 km / h. The Asian “Rennsemmel”, not quite 1.2 tons in weight, can even go up to 230 km / h according to the manufacturer. After all, there are 204 hp maximum power and a full torque of 275 Newton meters, between 1750 and 4500 revolutions / minute, ready. A 350-bar high-pressure injection nozzle is partly responsible for atomizing the fuel-air mixture “efficiently” and for accelerating the response behavior – in order to avoid or at least minimize a dreaded, uncomfortable turbo lag.
So that the i20 N not only masters the longitudinal acceleration with flying colors, but can also optimally “scratch” the curve, it is possible to equip it with a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential on the front axle. The “N Corner Carving Differential” consequently increases traction when changing direction dynamically, as less slip is allowed. A three-stage electronic stability program, which allows the following modes: ESC on, Sport and ESC off, is also conducive to driving enjoyment. In addition, Hyundai promises the use of a “specially tuned steering” that has a “high degree of precision” in all situations. Austrians will be able to get an idea of this personally in a good six months – then the i20 N will be available from Hyundai dealers. (panty)
