Vienna – The press spokesman Rasin Kamali of Hyundai Austria does not want to miss one thing – the size comparison in connection with the digital advertisements in the new i20. Because the small car represents “the benchmark in the segment” in this respect, as Kamali emphasizes, with reference to the digital instruments and the touchscreen. If the potential buyer tends to equip the i20 accordingly, he can benefit from a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch screen (with touch functions) on the center console. No rival can keep up with this approach for the time being.
In other respects, too, Hyundai is pushing the tube with the i20, because next spring the Koreans want to submit two variants that are supposed to accustom the i20 to unprecedented sportiness. We are talking about the i20 N Line (probably with 120 HP) and the i20 N (almost certainly with more than 200 HP).
Until then, however, the bread-and-butter goods will be used, i.e. a generally compatible engine portfolio, consisting of an 84 hp four-cylinder gasoline engine with multipoint injection and a 100 hp three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with a displacement of one liter . The entry-level engine can be combined with a five-speed manual switch, the more powerful three-cylinder can be combined with a six-speed manual switch or with a dual-clutch transmission (seven gears). Consumption is between 5.1 and 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers, depending on the equipment, and CO2 emissions are between 117 and 131 g / km (WLTP). The active crossover variant, however, has no future – it will be replaced by an independent SUV next year.
In terms of dimensions, the i20 is within the usual segment – the vehicle is 4.04 meters long, 1.76 meters wide and 1.45 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.58 meters and the trunk has a capacity of between 352 and 1165 liters. When it comes to driver assistance systems, however, the model stands out because it has a whole range of innovations as standard and as options: The innovations include, for example, a navigation-based cruise control system (Smart Cruise Control).
Three equipment variants are provided for the i20. The base, iLine, is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, manual air conditioning, a lane departure warning system and a Bluetooth audio system with four speakers (according to the price list from 15,990 euros). In addition, iLine Plus ranks with rear parking sensors, a black painted design radiator grille and a turn signal unit integrated into the exterior mirror, as well as a winter package including heated front seats and heated leather steering edge (from 16,990 euros). Finally, from 18,990 euros there is also Trendline with full LED headlights, 16-inch aluminum rims, rain sensors, reversing camera, automatic air conditioning and the 10.25-inch instrumentation mentioned above.
