John Kerry was welcomed to Brussels as an old friend. The United States’ special climate envoy is in Europe to prepare for the climate summit to be held in Glasgow in November. And in Brussels, he was immediately invited to the engine room of Europe: he was able to participate in the weekly meeting of 26 European Commissioners with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “You should have seen the reception that John received”, underlined later Frans Timmermans, vice-president of the powerful European institution and in charge of the action for the climate.
