Belize is full of lagoons, some popular and frequently visited, while many remain unexplored. Northern mainland Belize is flat and includes habitats such as coastal swamps, palm savannas, plains, and natural lagoons. four mile lagoon

Discovered by the English navigator James Cook in 1765, and who noted it as ‘a magnificent lagoon on the south side of the river’ in his log, referring to the calm waters of “La Laguna de Cuatro Milas”, it is called Four Laguna of the Mile.

Four miles south of the Río Hondo, the lagoon is home to a wide variety of species endemic to the Yucatan Peninsula.

Just seven miles from the town of Corozal, this lagoon is a cool respite from travel or the heat of summer. The calm waters are also ideal for fishing, sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking.

Laguna Ranchito

South of Corozal Town, Orange Walk and Belize City rests the sleepy town of Ranchito and Ranchito Lagoon.

This lagoon is filled with clusters of water lilies and looks like something out of an art book with tall red mangroves lining it. With alligators lounging on the sides, the buzz of bees and the buzz of damselflies keep all our senses engaged.
