Netsky is criticized after video on social media: ‘I’m ashamed’

Netsky (31) is strongly criticized for a video he posted on social media. In it, the Belgian DJ seems to poke fun at the haka, a ceremonial dance of the Maoris.

The haka is a ritual dance performed by New Zealand rugby players, among others, when they enter the field. The purpose of the intimidating war dance is to summon the gods.

Netsky, aka Boris Daenen, chased the dance, which included crazy face pulling, with friends after watching a rugby match. Even a New Zealand Member of Parliament speaks shame about the video.

Netsky has taken all images offline and apologizes. “I’m ashamed,” he writes on Twitter. “I clearly still have a lot to learn about cultural appropriation and I am determined to do so.”
