Repression of Uyghurs: EU prepares to sanction China, a first since Tiananmen

Pékin is already riding his high horses. And threat: if the European Union confirms, next Monday, the adoption of sanctions against Chinese officials for the repression and massive detention of Uyghurs in Xinjiang, “we will react firmly”. Unlike many other authoritarian or dictatorial regimes, aggressive or corrupt, “accustomed” to European sanctions, the Chinese power (and its fabulous market) has escaped European wrath for more than 30 years – since the bloodbath and the arrests after the protests in Tiananmen Square, when the EU imposed an embargo on arms sales to China.
