Save the environment, save life

“Save the environment, save life” is a very important saying that is on top of all human minds these days. Many people follow the green path with the key objective of preventing nature and saving the environment from the harmful effects of various human activities. With so much pollution and ecological imbalance, the current situation has become threatening. The problems are now alarming even for the best environmentalists who are constantly and rigorously searching for ways and methodologies to save the environment that is gradually taking its toll on human life. Therefore, it has become very important to take important action and save lives.

There are many factors that have contributed to the threatening effects of the environment. The most alarming are global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, air pollution and water pollution.

Global warming is a life-threatening problem facing the world today. It is a condition in which the earth’s temperature rises due to the action of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The emission of these gases into the atmosphere traps heat and sunlight that raises the earth’s temperature. Although the problem has become life-threatening, there are significant ways that we can reduce its damaging effects. The most measurable step is to switch to fuel-efficient cars that produce comparatively less carbon dioxide emissions. Since carbon dioxide is the main cause of global warming, a drastic reduction of its emission into the atmosphere will greatly help the environment and human life. There are other ways, such as insulating the home, carpooling, planting a tree, and using more public transportation.

Depletion of the ozone layer is another alarming problem for environmentalists. Ozone is an important component in the atmosphere that protects humans from harmful ultraviolet rays. Unfortunately, human activities have caused ozone depletion, which can be disastrous if not controlled now. The key factor causing this depletion is the increased level of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). In the stratosphere, this compound breaks down to release a free chlorine atom that reacts with an ozone molecule to form chlorine monoxide and an oxygen molecule. The resulting chlorine monoxide also reacts with the ozone molecule to form a chlorine atom and two oxygen molecules. The reaction keeps repeating itself as a free chlorine atom is released. In the process, the amount of ozone in the stratosphere is drastically reduced, which has become a serious concern. There are several ways to combat the problem, such as avoiding the use of sprays, insulating the home, and avoiding the purchase of polystyrene products. It is also very important to keep a regular check on the air conditioning installed in cars because any leak in the refrigerant will release a large amount of CFCs.

Air pollution caused by various human actions such as smoking, destruction of forests, excessive use of air conditioners, and increased reliability of private vehicles has caused considerable threat to the environment. It is very important to keep a check on the increasing pollution to save nature and life from the clutches of destruction and disaster. To combat the problem, the best ways are to use the carpool or public transport as much as possible, avoid active and passive smoking, minimize the use of air conditioning, stop the use of wood stoves, avoid the purchase of products with formaldehyde, remove asbestos if it is anywhere in the house, and make the most of energy efficient appliances.

Water pollution is also increasing due to uncontrolled human activities. Both air and water are necessary for life and, if contaminated, will directly leave a distressing impact on human life. Take steps to reduce water contamination by closely monitoring your water supply. Do not flush or dispose of any type of chemical or toxic substance down the drain or into any type of body of water. Regular testing or verification of drinking water is also urgent, as it may contain bacteria, metals, and other toxic chemicals.

Just one step ahead and you can save the environment, and eventually save life on earth.

It is time for all of us to wake up and take important action to Save the environment.
