Vienna – For Austrians, the car is more than just a means of transport – more is done in it than just driven from A to B. The classics include singing and talking to yourself. For eight out of ten respondents, the former is part of driving a car. Women (83 percent) live out their musical streak somewhat more freely than men (78 percent). Two thirds said they used the car for self-talk, according to a survey by AutoScout24.at among 500 Austrians.

Mobile pedestals also function as an outsourced bathroom. Changing clothes is the most common: seven out of ten respondents have already changed in their car. In addition, 44 percent of the women surveyed have already put on make-up or painted their nails in the car, almost one in seven has already relocated dental care to the mobile unit and seven percent have already shaved.

In times of Corona, when home office and lack of space are not uncommon, it is not surprising that more than half of the respondents (56 percent) have already used the car to work. Around a third have already prepared for a professional meeting or a job interview.

Sex and first dates

Austrians also spend time in their car as a couple – and not just while driving. Every second person says they have had sex in the car before, and one fifth have gone on their first date in a wheeled vehicle.

Forbidden and dangerous activities have already taken place in connection with the car. 30 percent have already ridden in the trunk (men 35 percent, women 24 percent), 28 percent have already slept off the intoxication in the car (men 39 percent, women 17 percent). A quarter (men 34 percent, women 13 percent) have tried to drift, drive donuts or drive the car on only one side on two tires. (APA)
