Upage of the “Trump era” is turning. The European Union and the United States have reached a truce in the old trade dispute over public subsidies to aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing, the European Commission announced on Friday evening. Following a first telephone conversation between Commission President von der Leyen and President Biden, the two parties agreed to suspend for an initial period of four months the heavy customs taxes imposed on both sides on a myriad of products, aeronautical or not. The United States was the first to receive the green light from the World Trade Organization, in 2019, to compensate for the undue subsidies offered by Europeans to Airbus, up to $ 7.5 billion.
