The colors we wear can influence how we feel and how we are perceived by others. I like to wear bold colors in winter as it cheers me up and distracts me from the perpetually cold gray sky. During the winter, I continually dress my daughter in mixed shades of bright blues and yellows, pinks and reds, and she never fails to brighten up a room and has perfect strangers compliment her on her outfit. Last week I went to her birthday party and I styled her in a multicolored polka dot dress with lime green tights and a dark aqua turtleneck which were two accent colors of her dress. She was warm but cheerful on a dreary winter’s evening and many moms complimented me on her outfit.
I recently bought her a multicolored striped coat that has the same effect on people. Last Saturday, her dance teacher couldn’t stop talking about the coat and later that day, when I walked into the room with her to drop my son off at his drama class, the drama teacher just had a crush on her.
I love color, I celebrate color… And it’s a perfect way to stand out from the crowd. For example, red is the color of love, it celebrates passion and intensity. But red is not a color just to wear on Valentine’s Day or Christmas. Red clothing draws attention as it is an energetic color. Advertisers will usually recommend their clients to use some accent of red when taking a photo as it helps you stand out.
The next time you go out to dinner, wear a red evening dress and see the reactions you get. Let the next coat you invest in be a red coat and remember to buy a pair of red shoes. But please don’t use them all at the same time. If an all-red evening gown or coat is too intimidating, opt for accents of red like a scarf, belt, trendy bag, red necklace, or polka-dotted ring. Wear your red shoes with a pair of jeans and tie them up with another red fashion accessory like a red hibiscus necklace.
