Breathing – The Secret to Instant Calm

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if something you do every day could dramatically improve the way you think and feel? With a little practice, learning to breathe more consciously and fully can do just that.

Anyone who has ever attended a yoga or meditation class will know the enormous benefits of something as simple and natural as breathing. Inhale slowly and steadily and you will be able to relax your whole body.

Exercise does not always have to necessarily be to be physically active. There are several different forms of effortless exercise that you can use on a daily basis that will help you get physically fit, lose some weight, and feel better from the inside out. A good example of this is deep breathing exercises, something many of us never take advantage of. The fact is that breath is life and if we take advantage of these effortless exercises, it can help improve our lives in a number of different ways. Not only will our breathing improve on a regular basis, but we may also find that it helps our mind to relax.

Every time we take a breath, air from outside enters our lungs. It is then distributed throughout our body through our bloodstream. You may be surprised to learn that air is taken directly into the bloodstream and then through the heart before it is dispersed to the rest of the body. It is very important for us to make sure that we have a constant supply of oxygen because without oxygen, our life would cease to exist. Although we all breathe regularly, making sure we’re breathing correctly can go a long way toward improving our health.

How can you tell if you are breathing correctly? Every time we take a breath, our lungs fill with air, but something else happens if we breathe the right way. Our diaphragm moves up and down as a result of filling our lungs with them and increasing capacity with each breath. This diaphragm also pulls our stomach in and out and if you don’t see this happening, you’re not breathing deep enough. By doing deep breathing exercises every day, you will reprogram yourself to breathe properly.

There are several different deep breathing exercise routines you can do.

1) Practice relaxed breathing: find a comfortable position and a relaxed environment. Breathe slowly and rhythmically through your nose, using your lower chest. Make the size of your breath smaller. Although it may be difficult at first, you should practice breathing in this way every day. Once you can do this exercise when you’re relaxed, try it when you feel like you’re losing control.

2) Take time to relax – Build relaxation into your day. It can be an effective way to control your breathing.

3) Exercise your posture: Maintaining a good posture is essential for a good pattern of breathing and exercise.

4) Breathe through your nose instead of your mouth. Breathing through the nose brings the air to the right temperature and humidity to encourage relaxed breathing.

One of the easiest ways to make sure you’re breathing correctly is to take a little time each day to do some deep breathing exercises. This will not only help us get back into training, but it will also bring a lot of oxygen to our body, something that will boost our metabolism. By doing this regularly and learning to breathe when you are not exercising, you will be helping yourself to a healthy mind and body.
