What Are Edge Protection Barriers?

Edge Protection Barriers

Edge Protection barriers are temporary fences placed around a work area to help prevent accidental falls from height. They are used on building and construction edges, technological openings (such as lifts) and roof edges, passageways or any area where there is a fall risk. They are also a great way to mark out hazard areas on the site and indicate no-go zones.

They can be a very cost-effective solution to ensuring that all of your staff are protected at all times whilst working at height. They can also help to ensure that you meet all European safety standards, helping you to achieve a safer workplace and reduce the risk of accidents on your building project.

Our range of edge protection barriers are available in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit your needs. They are available in a high vis option, which includes a mesh panel fastened to a safety yellow/black marker strip to help highlight the boundaries of the work zone. We offer packages which include all of the required components for each type of barrier, enabling you to save time and money when ordering.

There are many different types of edge protection systems, and all are designed to help you comply with the latest European Work at Height standards – EN 13374. These include Mesh & Net Barrier Systems, Tubular Guardrail Solutions and Screen Protection systems.

A number of these systems are designed to be fixed into a parapet wall to provide permanent edge protection that can be used 24/7. They are able to withstand the force of a worker falling from above and can be easily adjusted to a desired height using an allen key.

For more permanent applications, there are also a number of different systems available which can be fixed to trench sheets to help reduce the risks for civilians and members of the workforce when excavating trenches. These can be particularly effective on projects such as railways where the risk of falling onto moving trains is a very real threat. These systems can be made from a non-conductive material such as pultruded glass reinforced plastic to help mitigate the risk of injury.

Other temporary systems are also available that can be fitted to scaffolds or other temporary structures in order to help you comply with the latest Work at Height regulations on your building site. These can be freestanding, or they can use weights to remain upright. They can be customised to your requirements and are ideal for accessing roofs and other sudden changes in height on your project.

There are also a range of collapsible or foldable guardrails that can be utilised where building aesthetics may need to be considered, such as in listed buildings or churches. These can be folded away when not in use and are available for hire in a variety of widths. They can be easily adjusted to a suitable height and can be supplied with a wide range of fittings.
