Entrepreneur: 4 words you (or anyone else) should never say

Entrepreneur: 4 words you (or anyone else) should never say

I started “Fake It Until You Make It” to provide women-owned small businesses with tips on using technology. I see so many women who don’t invest in technology or training for the business or for themselves. Not having technology (or being poor) condemns most who try it and prevents others from trying. They constantly work harder, not smarter, because they are afraid of technology.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that an accountant can instantly try to become a database programmer, nor that a commercial real estate coach can transform into a web designer. Even if you’re not tech-savvy, that doesn’t mean you should be afraid of it.

How many of us knew how to walk, talk or do anything when we were born? NO! As we grew from babies to toddlers, we learned that you had to crawl before you could walk. That same philosophy holds true as an entrepreneur, however, when it comes to technology, we let 4 of the most dangerous words in the English language get in our way…

“I DO NOT KNOW HOW!”

Some entrepreneurs fear technology, leading them to say those 4 words (not to be confused with four-letter words, that’s another topic!) more often than they think. As a result, it is difficult and overwhelming to get started.

When was the last time you updated your Internet (web) browser software? “I DO NOT KNOW HOW!” Regular software updates can provide better and faster service and are crucial to keeping your home office computer or home office network as secure as possible.

When was the last time you updated your Office templates? “I DO NOT KNOW HOW!” Microsoft offers free templates for work, home, and play. Importing pre-built templates to Microsoft can save you time and money.

When was the last time you attended a technology training from your home or office using just your phone and computer? “I DO NOT KNOW HOW!” WebEx offers free live and recorded webinars and webcasts from industry experts. Principal Financial Group offers free teleclasses for Women, from Leading Experts.

Do you understand my point?

I challenge you to replace 4 of the most dangerous words in the English language with these “I WILL LEARN How” to use technology to take my small business to the next level.
