Does music make walking fun?

For those of us who like music to help us walk, we download our favorite songs to our iPod and take off. If you know you feel really good and are looking forward to a brisk walk, put on that music; like: “Flying High” from the movie “Rocky” with Sylvester Stallone. You know that song is always upbeat music and it will get you out there and help you become enthusiastic in your step. One of my clients loves the song “Grease Lightening” from the movie “Grease” and walks animatedly while the song plays.

And what if you just want to take a leisurely walk? When you wake up thinking that I really don’t want to go outside and push myself, I just want to go out and enjoy God’s nature. Try some meditation music and I have tons; bring out that peace of mind in your body and soul when you just want to take a leisurely walk. I like gospel music because my parents raised me with gospel music and it is part of my life. Some gospel songs are slow and others are upbeat and fun to walk on. Music improves my attitude and my pace as I walk. Take a gospel song that is calm like “Sweet Hour of Prayer”, you want a calm song with a smooth and slow step. Your next selection may be another song that is animated. You can walk slowly and then accelerate and then walk slowly determined by the rhythm of the song. You will find that moving / walking to the beat of the music will cause your body to start walking at intervals.

So your music selection can help you have a lot more fun walking. When you want to go outside and take a walk because it’s fun, be sure to bring your personally selected music and enjoy nature. Remember to always put the earplug in only one ear because you should always be aware of the noise and the people around you. If you have both ears plugged, you may be putting yourself in unnecessary danger.
