Respect for the environment and fundamental rights: the EU wants to impose corporate responsibility

Lhe European Parliament should bring a new stone to the building of a more “sustainable” Europe this Wednesday: respectful of the environment and of human and social rights. The draft European legislation in this area should obtain the support of a majority of MEPs. This legislation will oblige companies operating in the EU (whether European or not) to ensure respect for these fundamental rights – throughout their supply chain.

Didier Reynders, the European Commissioner in charge of the dossier, has pledged to table an “ambitious” proposal shortly during the parliamentary debate on Monday evening. He had already announced the preparation of a bill on corporate accountability last April.
